It's not a masterpiece, but it's a very solid detective story with a
little coming-of-age and a lot of social criticism sprinkled in. I feel
that putting female leads (and side characters) in a historical period
that wouldn't prominently feature them is a powerful metaphor to point out
current inadequacies in society, it doesn't feel forced here. And I can
see the specific appeal to young girls, which I would argue are the
primary target audience. But I had fun watching as well, and that's not
true for every Netflix production. And yes, there should be a spin-off
with Cavill's Holmes in a more grown-up continuation of the Downey-Holmes
movies. Or maybe even a crossover?!
